My dad asked for this one. It was for a book he wrote at work. The book dealt with different types of minerals that had to be identified under a microscope. The minerals formed in glass-making furnaces and would get stuck in the machines. It was dad’s job to figure out where they were coming from and how to stop it. I did my internship there and actually did some work on the book too (besides this painting!). Anyway, the arrow, the wizard’s staff, and the strange plants on the ground are all ‘beads’. beads are what we would receive from the glass-making plants and they would each contain a mineral that we had to identify. It’s a fun picture if you know what you’re looking at. Otherwise, it probably looks rather strange. the constellation ‘microscopium’ is a real constellation.
